Common Questions.

The most-asked questions about critical illness insurance in Canada.

What conditions are actually covered?
Standard Canadian plans cover 25+ illnesses including life-threatening cancer, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, multiple sclerosis, paralysis, major organ transplants, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS, and more. Enhanced plans cover up to 44 conditions including 17 early-stage diagnoses with partial payouts.
How long after diagnosis until I get paid?
Most claims are paid within 30–60 days of diagnosis confirmation. Almost all Canadian policies have a 30-day survival period — meaning you must survive 30 days from your diagnosis date for the claim to be valid. After that, the insurer reviews medical records and issues payment.
Can I use the money for anything?
Yes — zero restrictions. Treatment, prescription medications not covered by provincial health, private clinic costs, travel for treatment, mortgage payments, kids' school, home modifications, replacement income, or a long vacation to recover. The money is yours.
What if I never get sick?
With a standard policy, you pay premiums and that's it. With a Return-of-Premium rider, you get all your premiums back at a set age (typically 65 or 75). It costs more upfront but you're guaranteed value either way — either through a claim or the refund.
How is this different from life insurance?
Life insurance pays your family when you pass away. Critical illness insurance pays you while you're still alive — after a covered diagnosis. They're complementary, not competing. Many Canadian families carry both.

Be ready for life's worst moments.

Most Canadians don't realize their provincial coverage stops at treatment. Critical illness insurance covers what comes next.
